ProofPilot Announces Partnership with Human API to Advance Patient Screening and Clinical Monitoring in Research

The collaboration will enable researchers to remotely access consenting participants' electronic health data, improving the cost and quality of patient monitoring

NEW YORK—Aug. 31, 2022—ProofPilot, the digital protocol automation platform for clinical trials, and Human API, the industry-leading platform enabling life sciences organizations to connect and convert consumer health data into actionable health intelligence, today announced a collaboration that will allow researchers to digitally access consenting participants' electronic medical records (EMRs) through the ProofPilot platform. This partnership will provide a much-needed solution for the highly-complex research industry to improve recruitment and remotely monitor clinical trial data in a more productive and cost-effective way.

The integration between ProofPilot and Human API allows participants to remotely opt into a process to locate, authenticate, and provide access to the EMRs from their original HCP or the study site in a secure, compliant manner through the convenience of their mobile device, enabling two novel capabilities in recruitment and monitoring. For recruitment, clinical site staff can now more thoroughly pre-screen patients in an evidence-based way, prior to the formal screening visit, to vastly improve the screen-fail ratio and reduce the wasted efforts and time of patients and staff when the study is not a good fit.

Additionally, clinical research monitors (CRAs) can remotely monitor the source documents of a clinical trial side-by-side with the study data on demand, eliminating costly travel and other non-value-added activities.

"Evaluation of prospective patients in research that don't end up qualifying is a huge pain point for sites and patients in both time and cost. Meanwhile, clinical monitoring remains by far the biggest line item in the research budget," said Joseph Kim, Chief Strategy Officer at ProofPilot. "With Human API's approach to digitally allow participants to provide access to electronic medical records, our platform can help to greatly improve  two of the biggest problems in research conduct today."

Source Document Verification (SDV) remains the most costly component of a clinical trial, due to costs for site visits and downtime of CRA travel. Thus far, most Remote Source Document Verification (rSDV) solutions focus on burdensome document uploads or difficult third-party access to local EMR systems. ProofPilot's partnership with Human API will finally create a path for life science sponsors to reduce or eliminate costs for SDV by offering a comprehensive set of capabilities to perform rSDV.

Patients will also benefit as the burden normally required to collate this information on their own will disappear. Additionally, having accurate medical records on hand by the study staff decreases the likelihood of any safety issues attributable to missing or forgotten details about medical history or drugs currently being prescribed.

"Human API is committed to being the leading platform to engage patients and facilitate the connection, conversion, and sharing of consented health data for clinical trials, patient registries, and patient support programs," said Christian Wieland, Chief Product Officer from Human API. "We're thrilled to be partnering with ProofPilot for this important work, which will play a key role in advancing clinical research for life sciences organizations, ultimately enabling potentially life-saving interventions to get to market faster."

About ProofPilot
ProofPilot supports clinical trials with the industry's first fully automated digital protocol platform. The platform orchestrates stakeholder tasks and optimizes clinical workflows, improving stakeholder experiences and data quality. The elimination of guesswork and research protocol deviations creates high-performance experiences for sites and patients. Founded in 2014, ProofPilot was one of the first global digital clinical trial solutions allowing virtual, hybrid, and in-person research offerings with its patient and site Co-Pilot packages. Zander Insurance, Life Quotes, and Sproutt Insurance Go Live with Human API Platform to Accelerate EHR Retrieval for Carriers and Create Better Life Insurance Buying Experiences

Human API is empowering leading insurance distributors Zander Insurance, Life Quotes, and Sproutt Insurance to modernize the insurance buying experience with one platform that connects to online EHR data sources and traditional APS vendors, expediting underwriting and creating better customer experiences.

SAN MATEO, Calif., June 30, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Human API, the industry-leading platform enabling enterprises to connect and convert consumer health data into information that radically accelerates innovation, today announced that leading distributors Zander Insurance, Life Quotes, and Sproutt Insurance are now using its platform to modernize the life insurance buying experience and expedite underwriting with comprehensive electronic health records (EHRs) access.

Human API recently launched a new capability that enables distributors and carriers to seamlessly access authorized applicant health data and collaborate through one standard application programming interface (API) and platform. Historically, distribution partners have had to manually collect and share medical evidence with carriers which involved waiting weeks for paper medical records. With Human API, distributors can now collect EHRs and provide carriers with immediate access to normalized health data.

Zander Insurance, Life Quotes, and Sproutt Insurance chose Human API for its platform which significantly reduces underwriting cycle times and creates a better customer buying experience.

"With Human API, we are empowered to create a faster buying experience for clients via access to electronic health records," Shervin Eftekhari, President of Zander Insurance.  "Through this valuable technology, we can circumvent the traditional turnaround times carriers typically endure to receive and review applicants' medical records, as a direct API gives them access to structured EHR data. As the technology is more broadly adopted and accepted, it will accelerate underwriting and shorten cycle times to ultimately deliver a better consumer experience. We're excited about the journey ahead."

Securing medical records for life insurance underwriting today still remains largely a manual process that results in a high friction buying experience for customers and lengthy cycle times. The Human API platform simplifies medical records procurement by automatically engaging consumers to authorize the sharing of their health data, providing a single access point for all electronic health records (EHR) data sources to deliver a digital buying experience that feels similar to how people are shopping in other areas of their lives.

"As a digital insurance company, we're in a unique position to help our customers navigate the insurance buying journey and make better choices using their health data," said Yoav Shaham, Co-Founder, and CEO of Sproutt Insurance. "With Human API, we now have a simple way to gather our customer's EHRs upfront and feed this structured health information into our artificial intelligence technology to provide personalized product offerings that best match their lifestyles. Human API's platform will enable us to help more of our customers get the right coverage faster, and reward them for living healthy lives."

Over the last few years, Human API has gained significant momentum helping leading carriers adopt and scale EHRs across the enterprise. Now, the company is also focused on helping distributors engage customers early on in the life insurance shopping process to gather medical evidence that can be shared directly with carriers to expedite underwriting and improve policy placements.

"Moving EHR data collection up the process enables an instant buying experience for consumers by reducing cycle times, but it also allows us to gather valuable information that can be used downstream to help our carrier partners expedite underwriting," said Bob Bland, CEO of Life Quotes. "With comprehensive access to EHRs through one platform, we can better engage our customers at the beginning of the buying journey to help them secure the right coverage faster. This is exactly where life insurance needs to be headed, and we're very excited to be working with Human API."

Allowing customers to share medical evidence early in the buying process creates a better experience by accelerating medical evidence retrieval for carriers, leading to faster decisions and higher placements. With innovative technology and partnerships emerging across the ecosystem, insurance distribution is undergoing rapid transformation to meet modern customer expectations. The Human API platform is bringing together carriers, distributors, consumers, and EHR data sources to power a digitally integrated buying experience for customers and deliver value across the entire insurance value chain.

"We're looking forward to harnessing the power of our platform with these great distribution partners to transform the life insurance purchasing experience," said Andrei Pop, CEO at Human API. "The future belongs to companies that know how to deliver omni-channel digital experiences in the same way as industries like retail and banking. It's exciting to see insurance becoming more digital and dynamic like other subscription products that people are shopping around for today. We're looking forward to empowering more distributors to better serve their customers."

Human API Launches Health Intelligence Platform to Modernize Life Insurance Underwriting and Customer Experience

The company's new platform delivers health intelligence built on top of comprehensive electronic health records (EHR) access that enables insurance companies to innovate on how products are underwritten, sold, and serviced.

SAN MATEO, Calif., June 25, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- Human API, the industry-leading platform enabling enterprises to connect and convert consumer health data into information that radically accelerates innovation, today announced the launch of their Health Intelligence Platform.

The company's new platform enables insurance companies to deliver more personalized customer experiences with health intelligence created from comprehensive electronic health records (EHRs) access and applied across workflows, processes, and products to drive more policy placements and better customer experiences. The announcement follows Human API's Series C funding which allowed for significant product development and connectivity to all EHR data sources such as health information exchanges (HIEs), direct to EHR networks, and partnerships with leading APS retrieval vendors.

Human API started by accessing medical records through patient portal integrations, but is now connected to all EHR data sources including Epic Chart Gateway, Veradigm, and CommonWell Health Alliance®, along with leading medical retrieval vendors such as Datafied to consolidate health data access and remove the need for companies to piece together fragmented EHR solutions and data normalization technologies.

Better underwriting decisions start with Human API's proprietary machine learning data normalization and smart orchestration capabilities that convert complex EHR data and other health data sources into actionable intelligence. Insurance companies can now move beyond simply accessing EHR data to leveraging health intelligence to expedite underwriting, increase placement rates, and improve customer experience.

"Intelligence-driven decisioning enabled by data and technology is where our industry needs to go," said Jasmine Jirele, President and CEO of Allianz Life. "Going beyond health data access and abstracting useful information from data allows us to speed up what we're doing without compromising risk. The new Human API platform is aggregating all EHR sources and converting this valuable dataset into health intelligence that changes how we underwrite, sell, and service our products. The future belongs to companies that know how to apply data intelligence across organizations, workflows, teams, and processes. We're very excited to build that future with Human API."

Human API makes life insurance easier to underwrite, buy, and sell by significantly reducing cycle times and automating manual review of medical evidence. The launch expands the organization's capabilities for acquisition of all medical evidence within one platform, and enables the transformation of massive volumes of unstructured EHR data into actionable health intelligence. It is also the only platform for life insurance that allows distribution partners and carriers to collaborate in real-time to support underwriting with intelligent data access and decisioning.

"Consumers today are benchmarking their buying experiences against technology companies like Amazon and Netflix, and life insurance as an industry is rapidly adapting to meet modern customer expectations, powered by data and technology," said Ladder CEO Jamie Hale. "At Ladder, we are pleased to work with Human API's new platform because it helps us streamline insurance purchasing with health intelligence that empowers faster underwriting decisioning. It enables us in our mission to help more people get life insurance in an instant, easy, and affordable way."

Over the last few years, Human API has steadily helped leading carriers such as Prudential, Guardian, John Hancock, AAA Life, and Principal offer a more streamlined digital underwriting process that uses EHRs from patient portals to reduce reliance on traditional underwriting requirements such as exams, fluids and attending physician statements. With new data partnerships, sources, and platform capabilities that deliver health intelligence, Human API is positioned to help drive digital transformation across the entire insurance ecosystem.

As part of the new platform launch, Human API is also bringing to market a portfolio of new solutions built on top of normalized health data access aimed at accelerating underwriting, optimizing distribution, maximizing in-force engagement, and delivering better digital experiences for customers. Human API's new Health Intelligence platform will deliver actionable information to be leveraged across the entire insurance value chain, empowering carriers to achieve faster decisioning with less time, powering new buying journeys across preferred channels, and driving more business.

"Consolidating EHR data access was a necessary step toward delivering exponentially more value to our customers," said Andrei Pop, CEO of Human API. "Our new Health Intelligence Platform is the only solution that is propelling the industry beyond data connectivity to deliver actionable intelligence that drives true innovation in how insurance is underwritten, sold, bought, and serviced. As a platform company, continuous discovery and solutioning will enable new ways of applying and scaling the health intelligence we create across the insurance ecosystem. This is just the beginning. We're very excited to build the future of insurance with our customers."

VentureBeat Article: AI in health care creates unique data challenges

“The health care industry produces an enormous amount of data. An IDC study estimates the volume of health data created annually, which hit over 2,000 exabytes in 2020, will continue to grow at a 48% rate year over year. Accelerated by the passage of the U.S. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which mandated that health care practitioners adopt electronic records, there’s now a wealth of digital information about patients, practices, and procedures where before there was none.

The trend has enabled significant advances in AI and machine learning, which rely on large datasets to make predictions ranging from hospital bed capacity to the presence of malignant tumors in MRIs. But unlike other domains to which AI has been applied, the sensitivity and scale of health care data makes collecting and leveraging it a formidable challenge…

Solutions to challenges in managing health care data necessarily entail a combination of techniques, approaches, and novel paradigms. Securing data requires data-loss prevention, policy and identity management, and encryption technologies, including those that allow organizations to track actions that affect their data. As for standardizing it, both incumbents like Google and Amazon and startups like Human API offer tools designed to consolidate disparate records.“

Human API Raises $20M+ in Series C Funding To Scale Consumer-Controlled Health Data Ecosystem

The platform aims to accelerate innovation by giving consumers a cutting-edge means of sharing health data with the enterprises and researchers putting it to good use

SAN MATEO, Calif., Nov. 3, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Human API, the company empowering consumers to connect and share electronic health data with companies they trust, announced today that it has raised over $20 million in Series C funding. The round includes participation from Samsung Ventures, CNO Financial Group, Allianz Life Ventures, and Moneta VC, as well as from existing investors BlueRun Ventures, SCOR Life and Health Ventures, and Guardian Life Insurance Company.

Human API has established a strong reputation helping Fortune 500 financial services companies – like Prudential and John Hancock – deliver consumer-centric buying experiences, as well as assisting digital health scale-ups – including Omada Health and Thrive Global – to power digital health and wellness solutions. Positioning itself as a driving force in health data liquidity, the company is working to simplify the aggregation from direct-to-EHR networks, regional HIEs, and national data networks to create seamless digital experiences that allow consumers to securely share their data with companies that can put it to good use.

"Human API's 'one stop shop' of health data helps enterprises realize new possibilities in lasting consumer engagement models," said Paolo DeMartin, CEO of SCOR Global Life. "They're truly moving the industry into a new era of innovation."

The recent funding round positions the company to build on its significant momentum in industries including insurance, pharma and digital health, and to advance its mission to make true consumer-controlled health data liquidity a reality across a spectrum of markets.

"With this new capital we're evolving Human API into a digital transformation platform unifying more data from more sources," said Andrei Pop, Founder and CEO of Human API. "We're speeding up growth in the insurance, clinical trials, and health plans markets, as well as new use cases like COVID-19 screening."

The capital will be used to scale new products and services that enable new product design, granular risk stratification, optimize clinical trial recruitment, support population health management, automate patient monitoring, and digitize chronic disease management. To drive forward this period of growth, Human API has brought on Richard Dufty as Chief Commercial Officer. Having spearheaded AppDirect's growth from early stage startup to Unicorn status in just 4 years, and having led Symantec's $1B US Consumer and Cloud business, Dufty brings extensive experience launching and growing software ecosystems.

Human API's platform gives consumers a streamlined means of accessing and sharing their health records, opening up ways of transacting with enterprises through an intuitive experience likened to that of PayPal. Designed to give every consumer free, simple, and full control of all their health data, the platform connects, manages, and shares data from electronic health records, pharmacies, labs, wearables, and fitness apps.

Though consumers today generate vast amounts of health data, data remains unstructured and fragmented, keeping it out of reach for those innovating in the industry. For consumers, dispersed data prevents them from taking control of their health. For businesses, complex data prevents them from fully realising its value. In making health data an easily accessible and normalized asset, this data becomes actionable for both patients and trusted innovators, providing immediate value to consumers and enterprises alike.

Andrei Pop explains the possibilities: "On our platform, you can easily and instantly give a digital health provider the consent and data they need to deliver you personalized care. Or, through a couple of easy steps, you could immediately enlist as part of a pharma company's new clinical trial. Or, even, if you're in need of life insurance, but COVID-19 prevents an in-person assessment, you can instantly send what's required via our platform, completing the underwriting process in 24 hours."

"By facilitating these transactions," explains Sean Duffy, Co-Founder & CEO at Omada Health, "Human API is bringing into being a new consumer health ecosystem driven by consumer-centric health apps and services."

Human API Wins Best “New EHR Advance” for UCSF Digital Health Awards!

September 24, 2020 -- SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- UC San Francisco’s Health Hub, an innovation hub and startup studio supporting the next wave of digital health entrepreneurs, announces the winners in the UCSF Digital Health Awards. This unique awards event celebrated the achievements of innovative companies dramatically improving healthcare with technology.

The winners were selected across 15 categories by an unmatched team of 250 expert judges from the healthcare and VC industry, including Stan Kachnowski (HITLAB), Steve Barsh (Dreamit Ventures), Bob Kocher, MD (Venrock), Desert Horse-Grant (UCLA Biodesign), Ursheet Parikh (Mayfield Fund), Paul Grand (Medtech Innovator), Bambi Francisco (Vator), Anne Wellington (Cedars-Sinai Accelerator), Daniel Kraft (Digital.Health), Blake Wu (NEA), Michael Roizen (Cleveland Clinic), Michael Blum, MD (UCSF), Michael Lesh, MD (UCSF), and Lindy Fishburne (Breakout VC).

The winners were chosen from more than 750 submissions based on a rigorous judging criteria. In the first round of judging, the priority was on market validation and traction; in the second, innovation and differentiation; in the third, overall patient impact.

Due to COVID-19 and social distancing measures, winners were announced and honored at a virtual ceremony on the UCSF Mission Bay campus on September 23, at 6:00 pm PT where finalists from across the world joined in through Zoom, waiting in anticipation to see if they had won. Each award was presented by two industry experts, with occasional cameos from some of the biggest changemakers in healthcare, such as Alex Gorsky (CEO of Johnson & Johnson) and Dr. Amy Abernathy (Principal Deputy Commissioner of the FDA). The full video stream of the event is here.

The awards this year also honored innovative digital health companies who stepped up to the many challenges that the pandemic presented — misinformation, the danger of in-person doctor’s appointments, slow testing, and even slower results, and safely returning to work — among many others. These companies either pivoted their products entirely to combat COVID, tweaked certain aspects of their preexisting solutions, or simply saw the pandemic as a new use-case of a perfectly applicable, tried, and tested product. These products were launched within weeks of the first lock-downs, displaying American ingenuity at its finest. At the UCSF Digital Health Awards, we especially wanted to celebrate these unsung heroes of the pandemic through three new COVID Patriot categories - Best Diagnostic Testing Solution, Best Patient Engagement Solution, and Best Delivery and Decision Support Solution.

“We’re honored to shine a spotlight on the early stage companies and their founders making the brave steps making access to care affordable and practical,” said Mark H. Goldstein, Chairman of the UCSF Health Hub and General Partner at venture capital firm Builders VC. “Our winners represent the best of the best and we’re excited to now help them open new providers' doors.”

Enabling Change in Life Insurance: what does it “tech” to get the job done?

Written by

Dustin Yoder, CEO Sureify
Dror Katzav, CEO, Atidot
Brent Williams, CEO Benekiva
Andrei Pop, CEO, Human API

The COVID-19 pandemic has turned up the heat on insurers. Now, more than ever before, they need to provide their business units with digital tools to conduct business, keep agents selling and enable connections to customers in a socially-distanced world. The new business and social climate mandates that customers be able to shop for, buy and manage a policy without a face-to-face interaction for the future. Those carriers that have put the technology and processes in place to meet this increased business and customer expectation will have continued success even while the model of what “work” and “financial security” look like is changing.  Those who haven’t yet modernized are under added pressure to up their digital game.

Looking at a cross section of insurtech software and data leaders can provide carriers with a great deal of wisdom on how digital enablement is creating a more robust, more accurate, more cost-effective life insurance model for those willing to mix old and new. The leaders cited here demonstrate how implementing across-the-board technology enhancements can ultimately produce the recipe for success, not just today, but for the long term.

SUREIFY®

A recent Celent study shows that, in 2019, many of the most basic customer interactions related to the sale and service of life insurance could not be met digitally. More than 50% of insurers were unable to satisfy even basic customer needs (like changing a name, email address or beneficiary) without a face-to-face or fax transaction. It took a global pandemic to wake the industry up given that many needed processes have been stopped in their tracks. Today, many carriers who believed time was on their side are scrambling to adapt to this new environment, which arrived overnight and shows no signs of abatement. Frenetic activity is now being undertaken to plug a gap that was apparent even before the virus hit. A permanent digital end-to-end solution is no longer a nicety – it is a necessity.

Sureify began offering the “innovative” end-to-end digital experience that is now an absolute requirement for the life insurance industry long before the virus changed the transactional environment. The company’s platform is built to be flexible and modular.

  • LifetimeAcquire enables omnichannel sales that drive placement rates via quoting, e-application, automated underwriting, and new business transmission.

  • LifetimeService allows insurers to offer their in-force customers comprehensive self-service portals and native applications.

  • LifetimeEngage uses a variety of channels, including web and mobile applications, to keep customers learning, growing and engaged as policyholders.

As different insurtech partners are brought in to fill specific roles for different clients, Sureify completely customizes offerings to fit individual carriers’ needs, even in a constantly-shifting business landscape.  With a full complement of like-minded groundbreakers, Sureify orchestrates better, more cost-effective products and processes. The company’s continued growth is further proof that digital transformation is no longer an option, but a necessity.  “The idea that digital transformation is innovative has changed overnight, and now many of these digital capabilities are the new normal for doing business post-COVID” noted Sureify CEO, Dustin Yoder.  “Life insurers who make digital transformation part of their core strategy in 2020 will be well-positioned, not just throughout this pandemic, but into the future.”

HUMAN API

Traditional methods of gathering needed information for underwriting such as in-person paramedical exams and attending physician statement requests are significantly delayed or paused for the moment as the medical field turns its attention to the coronavirus outbreak. As a result, carriers and reinsurers must find a digital method for collecting medical data to continue underwriting cases. Distribution firms are also on the lookout for new ways to assist clients remotely, and to streamline the insurance buying experience to help more consumers secure peace of mind.

Human API allows consumers to digitally connect and share health data from the comfort of their homes -- with no IT integration work to get up and running. This “no-touch” approach to medical data retrieval supports business continuity for carriers, reinsurers, and distribution firms while ushering in a new era of digital transformation in insurance. Carriers and reinsurers are finding that an applicant’s electronic medical records often contain valuable information such as recent lab tests, vitals, and social history that can be used to expedite underwriting. The use of EHR data has grown exponentially, especially in recent weeks, and it shows the potential to replace the APS, in-person exams and lab work.  This could pave the road to a future with automated rules engines, accelerated underwriting programs, and granular risk stratification. Stakeholders from all across the life insurance industry are fully embracing EHR data to adapt to our new normal and better serve consumers.

ATIDOT

Life insurers and annuity writers have more client data than any other industry yet analyzing policyholder behavior has always posed a challenge. The recent rise in unemployment rates, regulatory changes and the unprecedented market volatility have exacerbated that challenge. Over the course of the past six months, we have been confronted with regulatory changes, the COVID-19 pandemic, shelter-in-place orders, a mandatory 90-day premium grace period, interest-rate drops, and a two-billion-dollar relief package. Traditional capabilities and paradigms lack the flexibility to enable insurers to overcome uncertainty, limiting their ability to understand demand elasticity and analyze new market trends in real-time.

Choosing a digital, data-driven approach will empower life insurers to embrace new opportunities and overcome unforeseen risks. Life insurers need the ability to analyze parameters such as lapse, mortality, profitability (and many more) to generate accurate real time predictions that will support their strategy. The fastest, most efficient, and most accurate method to generate insights and predictions dictates the use of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies. AI and ML can process large amounts of data from multiple internal and external data sources and then learn and produce new insights as events occur. Atidot offers such real-time data analysis based on clients’ portfolios. The solution provides a 360-degree view of policyholders and producers using insights and recommendations. It also allows strategic scenario modeling on individual policyholders, or on insurers’ overall portfolio and prediction of trends, looking at both individual consumer policyholder behavior and market changes in real time. This allows carriers to monitor, analyze and strategize to improve profitability immediately. “The pandemic has accelerated the digitization process within life carriers however, they have yet to maximize the potential within their data” says Dror Katzav, Atidot CEO.

BENEKIVA

In today's more hectic than usual environment, brought on by COVID-19, companies are challenged to keep business continuity effortless. Carriers need to easily move their claims operations to employees working from home, with no drop in productivity or issues with claims processing. Even the best life insurance modernized by technology combined with data means nothing if it does not produce the fulfillment of a customer claim.

Benekiva’s Bene-Claims module has allowed forward-thinking clients to transform their claims processes from intake through payout.  The platform automates documentation, intake process, correspondence, workflows, rules, reporting, interest calculations and more.  The company’s flexible architecture allows the platform to connect with multiple carriers’ systems across an organization to offer a single claims platform regardless of product line, product riders/rules, or underlying company that the policy was written under.  Carriers using Benekiva’s claims module experienced business as usual, or even better than usual. Per Steve Shaffer, Chairman, President, and CEO of Homesteaders Life Company, "With Benekiva's ability to work anywhere, anytime, and from any device, during COVID-19, it has been business as usual for our claims staff and most importantly, we have been able to uphold our superior servicing standard to our beneficiaries."

Insurers working with Benekiva have reported the following benefits:

  • 40% operational efficiency in claims processing, workflows, and payout

  • Accurate rider and benefit calculations that saved a carrier $2 to $4 million a year

  • Optimized interest calculations which saved a carrier over 40 hours a week

  • Reduction of cycle time of 75%

As the industry goes forward, the increased sense of urgency that has resulted from COVID-19 is unlikely to diminish. That means that digital transformation will be essential to any carrier hoping to be viable in this new domain.  As the method of doing business transforms to an “all digital” experience, it should be a given that 100% of insurers will be able to complete virtually all business transactions through mobile and web-based applications. Those insurers, and their start-up partners, who come to the table early will be best situated to sell more, manage risk better and operate in a cost-effective manner well into the future. Those who are in the beginning stages of offering such an experience may still be able to make up ground as they accelerate their processes to fit into today’s exclusively-remote business world.  Those who haven’t yet started a digital transformation will need the best allies in insurtech to survive into the future.

LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, Md., April 29, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, LIBRA Insurance Partners (LIBRA), one of the nation's largest insurance marketing organizations, announced a strategic partnership with Human API to simplify the life insurance purchase process by giving consumers a quick and easy way to share access to their electronic health records (EHR). The move to utilize EHR data has been accelerated by the current COVID-19 crisis. Given the disruption to traditional underwriting requirements such as paramedical exams and attending physician statements, the insurance industry is proactively leveraging alternative data sources like EHRs to find new ways to respond.

"Too many Americans have little or no life insurance in place. We know that life insurance provides peace of mind and is fundamental to good financial planning. However, many consumers find the buying process rather daunting. We need to make it easier if we are going to close the protection gap. Human API helps our partner agencies deliver a streamlined experience. Now more than ever, it's critical that they can deliver a fast, no-touch and digital option to help consumers secure the protection they need," stated Kelli Grass, Senior Vice President at LIBRA Insurance Partners. "Our agencies are essential resources, making sure advisors have the right solutions for their clients. It's important that they also have the tools they need to expedite the underwriting process as much as possible for their clients," she added.

Human API's consumer-controlled health data platform creates transparency and trust throughout the insurance buying journey by giving applicants a way to instantly share their medical records. Through this partnership, LIBRA aims to provide its agencies with a fully digital authorization experience. The two-minute process can be done in the comfort of a client's home without the need to interact with healthcare providers or in-person nurse visits. Agencies can then share the digital medical data directly with carriers to expedite the underwriting process and replace required labs and paramedical exams.

"We're working with everyone across the insurance ecosystem, from carriers to IMOs such as LIBRA, that are focused on making sure we navigate this crisis and emerge stronger as an industry on the other side," said Andrei Pop, CEO at Human API. "We're in a unique position to help the insurance industry adapt to our new normal. It's a privilege and responsibility that we don't take lightly. We're very excited to be working with a partner like LIBRA that has its sights set on the future. This is a perfect opportunity to advance the industry's digital transformation with collective action, which aligns with our company mission to accelerate the pace of innovation for consumers leveraging their own health data."
