Here’s a quick guide to finding and accessing your vaccine data online.

What are the benefits of accessing my vaccine data digitally?

As America opens back up and people start returning to normal life, businesses will be looking for ways to ensure they are providing a safe environment for their customers. Because checking paper vaccine cards is not a reliable method of verification, many venues are taking extra measures to verify their customers’ vaccination statuses digitally. If you’re looking to attend a live event, go back to the office, or travel internationally, you’ll likely need to show digital verification of your COVID vaccination. Being able to access your vaccine data digitally will allow you to get back doing what you love, faster.

How does digital vaccine verification work?

Digital vaccine verification is a straightforward process: find your vaccine records online and connect those records to a chosen Health Pass product using a platform like Human API. Health data such as vaccine records are typically stored in patient portals. A patient portal is a patient-facing web or mobile application that allows you to create and use an online account to access your electronic health records (EHRs) that are stored with a specific healthcare provider.

Depending on where you received your vaccination, your vaccination record may already be stored in a patient portal and you just need to create an account, or log in, to retrieve it. In some cases, creating a patient portal account may have even been a required step in scheduling your vaccination.

Where can I find my vaccine records if I didn’t get my vaccine at my healthcare provider?

For some vaccination administration sites, there is no supporting patient portal. This happens often for state- or federally- run Mass Vaccination Centers (although some of these sites may be supported by sponsoring hospitals or other healthcare providers).

If the site you got your vaccine at does not give you access to a patient portal, you can still find your vaccine records online by working with your current healthcare provider. You’ll just need to submit a request to your provider to have them look up your vaccination records on your behalf. With this request in hand, your provider can go and look up your name in the relevant Immunization State Registry. If they find a vaccination record under your name, they can add that to your electronic health record (EHR), which you can then digitally access through your patient portal account.

What should I do after I’ve found my vaccine records online?

Once you’ve found your vaccination records through a patient portal, you can now link those records to a “Health Pass” using Human API. To start, you’ll connect to your patient portal and authorize the release of your vaccine records by using your login credentials. Once your account has been connected to the Human API platform, your COVID-19 vaccination records will be retrieved and shared with the Health Pass product. The Health Pass will then update with the appropriate status to reflect whether you’ve had the right number of vaccination doses and how long it’s been since your last dose. This will verify whether you’ve been fully vaccinated.

You can also create a Human API account for free so you can share your vaccination data with multiple health passes. Human API gives you a central, convenient place to store all of your health data and share it with businesses you’re interacting with.

*Note: The health passes you can share your vaccine records with are limited to the partners who are currently working with Human API.

What is a “Health Pass”?

A “Health Pass” is a digital app designed to store your COVID vaccine status and/or COVID test results so that it can be easily displayed when you’re attending in-person events or traveling. There are dozens of companies currently building COVID health passes, with varying ways of verifying people’s health statuses. Some health passes ask consumers to take a survey on their recent activities and symptoms, while others require digital verification of vaccines and test results. The Human API platform is currently powering multiple health pass products that require digital verification of vaccines and test results.

What information is shared from Human API to Health Pass providers?

Human API will only share your demographic information, COVID test results, and COVID vaccination information with Health Pass providers. We value consumer privacy and ownership, so you can remove access to your health data at any time. Learn more about our health information sharing philosophy here: privacy policy

What types of health data does Human API collect?

Human API collects all available health data within a connected patient portal account including lab results, procedures, encounters, vitals, demographics and much more. You can access all the data we collect and share through a MyHumanAPI account.
